Most wedding suppliers play coy with pricing. We don’t think that’s helpful. If you’re trying to plan a wedding budget you need real numbers, not “contact us for a quote.” So here’s an honest, transparent guide to what wedding DJs actually cost in London and the Home Counties — what’s included at each price tier, what drives cost up or down, and how to spot the red flags.
The Three Tiers of Wedding DJ Pricing
Budget: £250–£400
This tier is dominated by part-time DJs, mobile-disco hobbyists, or new entrants building experience. You’ll get a single DJ, basic PA, basic lighting, often no backup gear, and minimal pre-wedding planning. They’ll show up, set up, and play music. That’s it.
Honest assessment: Fine for a small, casual reception where the music is background. Risky for a full wedding where you need someone to read the room, handle the key reception announcements smoothly, and have backup if something goes wrong. The savings disappear if you have to hire emergency replacement gear at midnight.
Our DJ Service: £500–£700

This is the Disctilldawn standard wedding DJ booking. You’ll get a proper PA suitable for 80–200 guests, decent lighting, basic uplighting, key reception announcements (cake cut, first dance and so on), access to our online event planner you complete in your own time (with us on the phone whenever you need to talk through the finer details), custom playlist creation, and full backup gear. Insurance and PAT testing certificates included as standard.
Honest assessment: The sweet spot for most weddings. You’re paying for experience, gear quality, and peace of mind. The DJ has done hundreds of weddings, knows your venue type, and won’t melt under pressure when the schedule slips by 40 minutes (it will). This is what most Disctilldawn couples book on its own.
Package Deals: £1,000–£1,600

For couples who want more than just the DJ, our package deals bundle multiple services and save you 10–20% versus hiring separately. A typical package includes the DJ, a photo booth (or magic mirror), light-up LOVE or initial letters, and a starlit dance floor — everything that makes a wedding reception feel like a proper occasion, all from one supplier with one contact.
Honest assessment: The smart choice for couples who want a coordinated look across the night and want to deal with one supplier rather than three or four. Bundling also means everyone is on the same setup schedule, which makes the day itself far less stressful.
What Drives Cost Up
- Hours. Most quotes assume a standard five-six hour evening. Earlier ceremony cover or after-party extensions add cost.
- Travel. Most DJs include a 30–50 mile radius. Beyond that, travel costs and overnight accommodation kick in.
- Saturdays in peak months. May, June, August and September Saturdays are routinely 15–25% more than off-peak.
- Larger venues. Marquees and large halls need bigger PA and more lighting — that costs more in equipment and setup time.
- Add-ons. Photo booths, magic mirrors, 360 booths, light-up letters, audio guestbooks — each is its own line item, but bundles usually save money.
Red Flags at the Bargain End
If a DJ quotes you under £250 for a full Saturday wedding, ask carefully what’s missing. The most common omissions: no custom playlist (just generic wedding playlists), no backup gear, no insurance, no PAT certificate, basic domestic-grade speakers rather than commercial PA. Each of those is a corner cut. By the time you’ve paid for the missing pieces separately, the “cheap” DJ costs more than a proper professional DJ.
How to Save Money Without Cutting Corners
The smartest savings come from the calendar, not the supplier. Weekday weddings, Friday or Sunday weddings, off-peak months (January, February, November) are routinely 15–30% cheaper across all suppliers. Bundling DJ + photo booth + light-up letters with a single supplier usually saves another 10–15%. And paying a deposit early sometimes locks in last year’s pricing — ask.
