The grand Tudor-Gothic mansion just outside Stevenage. Weddings here are big-budget affairs in the marquee on the lawns. Entertainment tip: the marquee is large and the acoustic bounces, so insist on a DJ who brings full subs and can balance the room properly. Light-up LOVE letters work brilliantly on the lawn for golden-hour photos.
2. Hatfield House
One of the most photogenic Jacobean houses in England. Weddings often use the Old Palace or one of the marquees in the grounds. Entertainment tip: the Old Palace has fixed sound restrictions, so check with your DJ that they can run a quieter cocktail set with full power for evening. Magic mirrors photograph beautifully against the wood panelling.
3. The Manor of Groves
A stylish Sawbridgeworth country house hotel that’s a long-time wedding favourite. Entertainment tip: the function suite has a proper dance floor and a built-in stage area — perfect for a full DJ booth with truss lighting. A 360 booth in the bar area is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser here.
4. Hanbury Manor
A five-star Marriott resort just outside Ware. Polished, professional, and a classic Hertfordshire wedding setting. Entertainment tip: the Poles Suite is generous in size, so don’t skimp on lighting — uplighters and a starlit dance floor make the room feel like an event rather than a hotel function.
5. Tewin Bury Farm
A converted barn complex with a proper rural feel, just outside Welwyn. Couples who want a relaxed, country-wedding atmosphere love it. Entertainment tip: the Tithe Barn has exposed beams and original features — light-up letters and warm uplighting suit the vibe far better than glittery party decor.
6. South Farm
Royston’s exclusive-use country wedding venue with multiple barns, gardens and a windmill. Entertainment tip: the layout means guests move between spaces all day — consider a smaller second sound system in the cocktail garden so the music follows them, not just the dance floor.
7. Pendley Manor
A Victorian manor near Tring with woodland grounds. Entertainment tip: the ballroom is a beautiful space that can swallow sound — bring a proper PA, not a slimline setup. The terrace is brilliant for a 360 booth in summer.
8. Sopwell House
A Georgian country house hotel just outside St Albans. Weddings use the marquee or the Mews suites. Entertainment tip: Sopwell has a strict 11pm music finish in the main house — build your timeline around it. The Mews allow later finishes if you want a long evening dance set.
9. The Greek Orthodox Cathedral and Hertfordshire Country Hotels
For couples doing a traditional church or temple ceremony then moving to a reception venue, the logistics matter. Entertainment tip: a DJ who can handle a quick set-up window is essential — you don’t want guests arriving at the reception to silence while the DJ is still cabling up.
10. Marquee Weddings on Private Estates
A growing number of Hertfordshire couples are hiring marquees on family land. Beautiful, personal, and entirely your own — but logistically more demanding.
